We’re excited to be exhibiting in Selfridges, as part of the first-ever Bike Shop by Smartech in The Corner Shop of its Oxford Street store.
As we take a step into a new reality, we reflect on how the last months have unforgettably transformed everything. People are craving new ways to live, work and commute. We’re collectively shaping a new green economy. The Bike Shop is a one-of-a-kind pop-up shop celebrating a new era of urban travel, bringing together a collection of the very best innovations from up-and-coming entrepreneurs reinventing the cycling industry. As we emerge into the ‘new normal’, we’ve seen an increased focus on health and wellness, looking after the environment and most importantly safety, with people avoiding public transport where possible. The Bike Shop coincides with an increase in cycling over recent months, with 1.3 million bikes reported to have been bought in Britain during lockdown.
As a young start-up, this is a huge milestone for us. It marks our one-year anniversary since we began shipping helmets to customers worldwide. As ever, we are grateful to every customer and all our partners that have supported us up until this point and we're excited to see what the rest of the year will bring. We'd love to see as many of you as possible in Selfridges over the next two months!
Our display
If you've not already popped by our stand at The Bike Shop, here's a sneak peak. Our current collection of black and white helmets are available to buy in store, as well as our limited edition 24 Karat gold Astra helmet. Staff are also available to offer advice and answer any questions you may have about our helmets.
We'll be in The Bike Shop in Selfridges Oxford Street store everyday until August 16th, between 10am-9pm Monday-Saturday and 11.30am-6pm Sunday. After that, we'll move to a different area of the store. We look forward to seeing you there!
Limited edition Astra helmet
We're excited to be able to showcase our limited edition Astra helmet to celebrate our partnership and display in Selfridges Bike Shop pop-up over the next two months.
This one-off custom edition is hand-painted by our friends at Cole Coatings Workshop in South East London. Using premium colour-shifting chromatic paint, the shell appears to change colour right before your eyes, depending on the angle from which it's viewed. More than just a subtle variation in shade, the colour undergoes an almost magical transformation in appearance. This shell is painted over a solid black ground coat and finished with a low-pressure off-white splatter to create the appearance of stars.
Bespoke 24 Karat gold gilding
In addition to our limited edition Astra shell, this one-off HEXR helmet is also gilded with 24 Karat gold by Carvers & Gilders based in London, who specialise in the traditional method of water gilding on a gesso preparation. We've commissioned bespoke gilding to the engraved features on our Astra helmet including our signature HEXR branding and your personal engraving on the back of the helmet.
This limited edition helmet will only be available to those who visit and purchase at our stand in Selfridges. Hurry though, we've only got 10 available for sale.
The team behind the scenes
It feels very strange to think that this time last year HEXR had just three full-time staff. We have since added many more members to the team, building out our expertise in areas from engineering to customer care, operations and marketing.
We're a group of passionate cyclists, curious and not afraid to try things differently. We pride ourselves on breaking stereotypes and becoming the centre of industry change.
