Highlights from our whirlwind start to 2020

The last few months have been incredibly busy and exciting at HEXR HQ with more and more people joining us on our journey. We thought it was time to share some of the highlights from our whirlwind start to 2020.

Joining Team GB

After several months working behind the scenes with The English Institute of Sport (EIS), we were thrilled to see a HEXR product being used by Team GB athletes at the UCI Track World Cup in Glasgow. That’s right, we’re officially supplying Team GB with innovative, aerodynamic helmets for competition use.

EIS provides performance innovation services to the governing bodies of Olympic and Paralympic sports competing at both the summer and winter Olympic Games. Their head of performance innovation, Naomi Stenhouse, had this to say on our collaboration:

“The EIS Innovation team select only the best equipment to ensure both the highest level of performance and the highest level of safety for our athletes. We are keen to collaborate with HEXR because the innovative custom fit solution and use of honeycomb structures deliver unprecedented performance compared with what would be possible if we relied on a traditional EPS design, without any safety compromise.”

We are excited to be continuing our work with EIS into this Olympic year, and the official track helmet developed by HEXR and EIS for Team GB is currently available on the website. Only a very limited number will be commercially available so if you fancy one, you’ll need to move faster than Elinor Barker after a handsling.

The app’s arriving

Our head scanning app, which has been in development since the middle of 2019, is just weeks away from landing in the App Store.

We have been inundated with requests for HEXR globally and have witnessed some incredible dedication to the cause. We had one person make the trip to London from Toronto and a family of five who came here from the Nordics to get their heads scanned. While that’s a glowing endorsement of our project, we thought there must be an easier way.

It was always the plan to make our scanning more accessible by building the 3D scan into phones, replacing the current need for ‘in-person’ scanning using a specially modded iPad. We had originally hoped there would be a company with the scan technology we needed, but there was nothing in the market accurate to the level we require to produce a HEXR helmet.

And so we spent the last five months developing our own technology, with our app due to launch in April. This will be the most accurate scanning technology on the market and will make it possible for everyone to self-scan at home.

A growing team

It feels very strange to think that this time last year we were just three full-time. We have since added 13 full-time members to the team, building out our expertise in areas from engineering, to customer care, to retail partnerships. A group of passionate cyclists, we have a weekly ride and coffee in Regent's Park. You can check out our Strava club for details, join us and meet the team!

New ways to get fitted

Speaking of London’s most popular spot for some pre- or post-work laps, HEXR HQ has recently moved to a mews in Primrose Hill, just off Regent’s Park, and we now have a dedicated scanning studio. If you would like to come and get a glimpse of our product development process, or have a scan of your head made if you haven't already, please book here. We also make great coffee!

There’s some extra good news for Londoners too. We have launched a home/office service where we come to you for the fitting at no extra cost. Just email george@hexr.com and he will arrange to be with you at a convenient time.

Coming up

We’re working on a way for you to get a fully custom shell from Cole Coatings Workshop. You may have seen their work on some of the most eye-catching custom bike builds around. Keep your ears to the ground for more news. If you have any questions, ideas or comments on things you would like to see from us, please let us know. We love hearing from you.
